It seems to me that this is not a uniquely American problem. It also seems to me that it is an "And, not Or" problem. We set an example through individual leadership and choices (witness Thunberg) because mitigating climate collapse has become a moral issue. We also help drive an identity that takes collective action using the solutions we already have. (See my series on identity.) And no, our individual actions won't keep the icecaps from melting, but when we wake up each day, knowing that we may lose, some of us have no choice but to try and do the right thing. Thanks.
